Pedicures

After we learned the basic manicures we moved onto learning pedicures.  Since Im only a part time student (12 hours a week) it's hard for me to actually pair up with a student to do a pedicure.

To date, and I've been in school for 7 month's I've yet to have a pedicure from a fellow student....but I've gotten a few from the instructor.  In the photo is Sandra performing a pedicure on Rafa.  Sandra lasted about 3 weeks and then she dropped the school.  The first pedicure I actually performed  was on a client that came into the school.

My first client was about 92 years old and I'll never forget it.  Her feet were in horrible condition and there was so much junk underneath her big toe I spent 10 minutes on that alone.  While I was working on her pedicure I began to second guess the reason I was doing her pedicure.  I remembered I was in it to make people feel good about themselves.  The finished product was awesome and she was happy with her pedicure.  She didn't leave a tip by the way which was fine with me.  Living in Las Vegas and being in the service industry you kinda get spoiled with getting tips but in school only half the patrons tip.  After that I started seeking out other "younger" student and their kids to perform pedicures on.  I even had a few of my friends come in for pedicures so I could get the sign off (credit) for the service performed.

Polish Changes and Manicures

One of the first few lessons I learned in class was to do the basic polish change and manicure.  I was actually a model for the instructor.  That helped me tremendously.  I got to witness the first hand steps of the basic manicure.  Up until I got to school I probably had 5 or 6 manicures in my life.  Guys just don't get that many manicures unless they has an ultra posh job that their nails would have to look good for.  Here's one of the students setting up for a basic manicure.

For me since I had never done polish changes I used a piece of paper with about 50 nails on it and just polished the paper over and over and over.  It helped me me with a steady hand to polish down the center and then down the sides of nail.  I did this for a few day and did quite a few polish changes of my mannequin hand.

School Tuition (G Skin and Beauty Las Vegas Nevada).......

So the cost of school cost $8,500.  Ouch......There are not that many valid school in Las Vegas when it comes to learning to be a nail technician.  G Skin and Beauty, Marinello's, Europhoria, James Albert School of Cosmotelogy, and Expertise.  I called all the schools and requested prices to help determine what school I wanted to go to.  My call to Marinello was meet with less enthusiam and they seemed the least inflexible on their schedule (plus the lady was rude).  But the cost there was about 3600 for their entire nail program.  The thing with their program is that you couldnt miss a day.  Myself holding a full time job at night and operating an electrolysis business wouldnt work going to this school.

Expertise was just too far away for me to commute so that school was ruled out immediately. (Plus it seemed like it was not up to standards seeing that it lost its accrediation a few months later) Europhia did not just have an all nail program so that shcool was ruled out as well.  James Albert's School was a brand new school and frankly I just did not trust it.

Lastly it was G Skin and Beauty in Las Vega Nevada. This institution was the most flexible but cost the most money but they financed your education.  Mine worked out to be 12 hours a week and it would take just under a years to earn my certification and graduate. I actually pay about 100 a month and I got a 1200 grant since my night job keeps me at the poverty line. LOL

After I got in shcool and began talking with other students  I learned that most of the students had loans but their terms was similiar to mine but some students didnt have to pay monthly like I did.  In retrospect...8500 dollars is alot of money for the type of supplies we got plus the price is almost double compared to other schools.  But hey....its only money and it comes and goes like the four seasons.

The Nail Art Las Vegas begins to evolve..........

This was actually attempted the 2nd week in class. It was my first attempt at doing a bow and polka dots.  I actually liked this and I wanted to put it on display in the Smithsonian.  There's actually a waiting list entry's so I will wait.  One of the few things I hate about doing nail art on a hand is that it has to be taken off for the next art show. I did minnie mouse justice on these........lol

The Products..........

The are the basic products that we use for a manicure and pedicure.  Christine Ashley is some of the cheapest nail products on the planet.  We use Polish Remover, Lotion. Cuticle Oil. Cotton swabs, cuticle remover, and the N.A.S. 99 which removes the shine and oils off the nail right before the polish.

The Hand................

So the hand is like the first thing that students do art on.  This is my very first nail art in Las Vegas minus the art.  I believe it was just like a gold polish or a beige polish.  We had to shape the nail into a square or rounded shape just to get used to filing the nail.  I mastered this art in exactly 4 minutes and I was ready for the next task.  Stay tuned.....this hand was just the beginning.

Nail Tool Kit

So it took about three days for me to get the tool kit.  Maybe it was 2 days.  I was kinda excited to get it.  You know something to call your own.  I've never heard of Christie Ashly products before I started the class.  There's a reason for that......because the product are no good!  lol

The tools of the trade.  Down the road in another blog I will take a photo of the upgraded products that I bought.

Nail Art Las Vegas the beginning......

Hi everyone,

This will mark the beginning of my blogging career however long that will be.  Actually I am a nail student at G-skin and beauty in Las Vegas Nevada and have been since May 2011.  Im actually a licensed Electrologist in the state of Nevada as well.  I've always had a thing for art.  I took a few art classes in college as well but one thing I have always been a fan of is nails.  Nails period!  So initially I thought of something that could supplement my electrolysis business.  Nails was the obvious choice.  Enter G-Skin and beauty........
